Our XCountry Team = Champions
The Boys Cross Country team had a record day on October 15th at the Constitution State Conference (CSC) Championships.
The team scored 23 points and had a team time of 1:29:54. Both were championship meet records for team performances.
All six Capital runners in the Varsity race earned “All Conference” honors with their 1,2,3,6,11,13 placed finishes.
The “All Conference” athletes were: Dhahran Velasquez (meet winner for the third time, he also holds the meet record for individual time), Devin Nelson, Kevin Rivera, Joseph Dobson, Phil Cruz and Mohammed Khadeer.
Not to be out-done by the varsity team, Marquise Maxwell won the Junior Varsity race by almost a minute.
Coach Scott Wojnarowicz started the program nine years ago. He said at the start of this season, "If someone told me I was going to be able to beat Fairfield Prep and Xavier in one week I would've laughed at them," Wojnarowicz said. "It's pretty neat."
"In Hartford or in urban areas, cross country is not a sport that many athletes thrive in. ... For us to be in means a lot," Wojnarowicz said. "It's something we've been really working for, especially these seniors."
The next meet will be the Class S Championship at Wickham Park in Manchester on October 26th at 9:15AM.
